A Poem For Opening Day


First Day of Spring

“Maybe this year”

the frustrated fans cry

fears dancing uncomfortably atop their hearts

passion whirling swirling twirling beneath a slight shoulder shrug


If only and

we just need and

if he stays healthy and he takes a step forward

and god damn it everything has to be perfect this is impossible


But then

the silence grows into a buzz

the sunlight makes the white of the plate brighten

the suspense builds as the arm cocks and the full force of everything of all that is possible of potential of promise of pent up winter hibernation unleashes in a fury and
